How MSMEs Ensure Products are Safe for Sale and Worthy of Consumption

For those of you in the food and beverage business, product quality and safety are not just complements-they're the foundation. Consumers are now more conscious about food safety, so it's important to apply the right standards from start to finish. Here are the important steps that you must pay attention to:

1. Understand and Follow the Rules
From distribution permits such as BPOM, to following production standards such as CPPOB-all are mandatory. These regulations are not just a formality, but a protection for you and your customers.

2. Use Quality Raw Materials
Make sure the ingredients you use come from trusted suppliers. Do regular checks, check the physical condition of the ingredients, and make sure there is no contamination. Good ingredients will produce safer and more consistent products.

3. Clean and Standardized Production Process
Keep the work area and production equipment clean. Implement clear sanitization procedures, and ensure processing and storage temperatures are up to standard. Neat production prevents many risks.

4. Packaging Must Be Safe and Informative
Use food-grade packaging materials that do not react with food. Don't forget to include a complete label: ingredients, production date, expiration date, and storage instructions-this is very important for consumer confidence.

5. Routinely Conduct Product Testing
Conduct laboratory tests to ensure there is no chemical or microbiological contamination. Sensory tests such as taste, texture, and aroma are also important to keep product quality consistent from batch to batch.

6. Proper Storage and Distribution System
Do not let the product get damaged due to storage or shipping. Store according to the recommended temperature and ensure distribution is done quickly and safely to maintain quality.

7. Complete with Certification
Halal certification from MUI is important if you are targeting Muslim consumers. Additional certifications such as HACCP, ISO, or organic certification can help you enter a wider market, including exports or large retailers.

8. Educate and Train Employees
Employees are the frontline of your product quality. Provide regular food safety training and build a work culture that cares about hygiene. A knowledgeable team will maintain production standards every day.

Product safety and quality are not negotiable. By consistently implementing the eight steps above, you can build a food or beverage business that is not only in demand, but also trusted by consumers and durable in the market.
