Since its announcement on February 10, 2022 according to the decision of the head of BPJPH No. 40 of 2022 that the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) stipulates halal labels apply nationally. This is done to implement the provisions of Article 37 of Law No.33 of 2014 on Halal Product Guarantee (JPH). The use of halal labels is valid from March 1, 2022.
The change in the new Halal Indonesia logo actually adapts Indonesian cultural values. Halal Indonesia logo consists of 2 objects namely Gunungan and Motif Surjan. Gunungan represents that the higher the knowledge and age of a person, we as humans should be more narrow. It means that we are getting closer to the Creator. Surjan motifs represent the alignment of elements with each other containing meaning as a differentiator or a clear boundary giver. Unlike the previous halal label that is green, the current halal label is updated to a purple color that represents the meaning of faith, unity of birth and mind and imagination.
How is the product that has been marketed with halal label previously published by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI)? According to BPJPH adjustments to the new Halal label are needed such as:
- Products that get a halal certificate from BPJPH before March 1, 2022 if they have not made product packaging, are required to use indonesian halal labels. As for business people who have made product packaging, spend the packaging stock and immediately to use the latest Indonesian Halal Label.
- Products that have received halal certificates from BPJPH starting March 1, 2022, business actors must include Indonesian halal labels on product packaging along with halal certificate numbers.
Business actors are expected to immediately list Indonesia's halal label from BPJPH as regulated by Government Regulation (PP) Number 39 of 2021 on the Implementation of Halal Product Guarantee Field. In accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Article 169 regulates the provisions on the halal logo set by MUI can be used with a maximum period of five years.
