JAKARTA: For 46 years, Yayasan Astra - YDBA has been supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), continuously strengthening their competitiveness so they can move up a class and become part of industrial supply chains. As of 2026, Yayasan Astra - YDBA has guided 2,030 active MSMEs across 21 regions in Indonesia. One of its success stories comes from PT Kawani Tekno Nusantara (Kawani), a manufacturing and fabrication MSME from Bandung that is now part of the Astra Group business ecosystem.
Yayasan Astra - YDBA applies a coaching approach focused on strengthening business mindset, improving business capabilities, and meeting Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) standards. Through this approach, MSMEs are prepared to meet customer needs and compete within industrial supply chains.
One example of this is the Development Program for Manufacturing MSMEs, a collaboration between Yayasan Astra - YDBA and six Astra Group Authorized Distributors (APM). This program provides training, mentoring, and assessment for MSMEs so they can meet industry standards and have the opportunity to become part of the Astra Group's supply chain.
PT Kawani Tekno Nusantara: Three Decades of Partnership with Yayasan Astra - YDBA
Kawani, a job-order-based manufacturing and fabrication business, has been mentored by Yayasan Astra - YDBA since around 2008. Through regular training from Yayasan Astra - YDBA, both from its Head Office and its Bandung branch, Kawani has overhauled its management systems, quality control, and production processes transforming them from conventional and manual methods into digital ones. Kawani's commitment and consistency in applying what it has learned to improve its production processes is reflected in its achievements: winning first place in the MSME 5R Competition three years in a row (2023, 2024, 2025), reaching Independent MSME (UMKM Mandiri) status in 2024, and obtaining ISO certification.
"The biggest challenge in a job-order business like ours is that we must always be ready to face change at any moment. That's actually what I enjoy most getting a unique job that can lower production costs and increase profit. That's what keeps our spirit going," said Yadi Nugraha, Director of PT Kawani Tekno Nusantara.
Leadership of Kawani has now passed to the third generation, Amjad Nugraha, who has served as General Manager since fully joining the company in 2021 after completing his studies at Politeknik Manufaktur (Polman) Bandung. "From management system innovation, quality control, to production, everything has developed from what used to be entirely conventional into digital processes. This has all been possible thanks to the assistance and training from Yayasan Astra - YDBA," said Amjad Nugraha, General Manager of PT Kawani Tekno Nusantara.
A Chance to Join the Astra Group Value Chain through the Development Program for Manufacturing MSMEs
Kawani's participation in the Development Program for Manufacturing MSMEs has opened the door for it to become part of the Astra Group's supply chain. Throughout the program, Kawani has received training, mentoring, and assessment to meet industry standards ahead of a final evaluation in November 2026.
Should Kawani successfully pass through these stages, it has the potential to follow in the footsteps of other Yayasan Astra - YDBA assisted MSMEs that have already become part of the Astra Group's supply chain. In 2025, MSMEs mentored by Yayasan Astra - YDBA supplied products and services to the Astra Group worth up to Rp4.9 trillion.
Kawani's story is just one of thousands of success stories born from Yayasan Astra - YDBA's mentoring. By the end of 2025, Yayasan Astra - YDBA had produced 449 Independent MSMEs (UMKM Mandiri) under its Advance Club program, creating 4,674 new jobs.
As it enters its 46th year, Yayasan Astra - YDBA will continue to strengthen its MSME development ecosystem by increasing the number of active MSMEs under its guidance, expanding social impact through partnerships, and realizing its aspiration to become a National Center of Excellence in MSME development in Indonesia.
