Based on the provisions of Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantees, business actors in the country must immediately apply for halal certificates for the products they offer.
Since the government formed BPJPH (Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency) as an effort to provide Islamic facilities, KMA (Decree of the Minister of Religion) No. 748/2021 which regulates the types of products that are halal certified.
Food
For food category products, it is mandatory to have a halal certificate according to government regulations. Some types of products are:
1. Milk and its analogues
2. Fats, oils and oil emulsions
3. Edible ice includes sherbet and sorbet
4. Fruit and vegetables by processing and adding food additives
5. Confectionery/candy and chocolate
6. Cereals and cereal products which are derivative products from cereal seeds, roots and tubers, nuts and pith by processing and adding food additives
7. Bakery products
8. Meat and processed meat products
9. Fish and fishery products, including mollusks, crustaceans and echinoderms, with processing and adding food additives
10. Processed eggs and processed egg products
11. Sugar and sweeteners including honey
12. Salt, spices, soups, sauces, salads, and protein products
13. Processed food for special nutritional needs
14. Ready-to-eat snacks
15. Ready-to-eat food
16. Providing food and drinks by processing
17. Food additives
18. Other groups of materials
Especially for category number 16, this includes Great Friends who have restaurants, canteens or cafeterias, eateries, food stalls, food stalls, and catering or catering services.
Drink
For the beverage category, there are two types of beverage derivative products, namely processed drinks and beverage ingredient groups. Regarding the types of drinks with processing, there are eight groups that Great Friends must pay attention to, namely drinking water, mineral water, high pH drinking water, soda water, oxygenated drinking water, carbonated drinking water, fruit juice and vegetable juice, flavored drinks, various coffees and tea, soybean drinks, cereals, dips, milk-based drinks, and traditional drinks.
However, according to Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021 (Article 141), the following types of products must be certified halal as of October 17 2021.
1. Traditional medicine, quasi-medicine and health supplements (until 17 October 2026);
2. Over-the-counter medicines and limited over-the-counter medicines (until 17 October 2029);
3. Psychotropic drugs are excluded (until 17 October 2034);
4. Cosmetics, chemical products and genetically engineered products (until 17 October 2026);
5. Used goods in the categories of clothing, head coverings and accessories (until 17 October 2026);
6. Used goods in the categories of household health supplies, household equipment, worship equipment for Muslims, stationery and office equipment (until 17 October 2026);
7. Used goods used in the category of risk class A medical devices in accordance with statutory provisions (until 17 October 2026);
8. Used goods used in the category of risk class B medical devices in accordance with statutory provisions (until 17 October 2029);
9. Goods used in the category of risk class C medical devices in accordance with statutory provisions (until 17 October 2034);
10. And products in the form of medicines, biological products and medical devices whose raw materials are not sourced from halal ingredients and/or the manufacturing method is not halal, are carried out in accordance with statutory provisions.
This regulation, which was decided by the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, does not mean that it makes things difficult for business people, but instead provides an opportunity for Great Friends to better maintain the quality of raw materials so that production results are safe for consumers.
